Time spent outdoors is an integral part of the school day at Hillside. The need for exercise and playtime is very important to children's physical and social development. Children need fresh air and exercise and time spent outside affords students an opportunity to break free from the structure of the classroom and interact with their peers.
Whenever possible, your child will be outside for school arrival and recess play. The 'real-feel' temperature will be the major factor to determine whether arrival and/or recess is outdoors or indoors. Typically, outside lineup or recess will occur when the external temperature is 30 degrees or above and when there is no precipitation. However, general conditions of the weather and playground/blacktop like wind, rain, ice, etc. will be strongly considered to determine if the children shall stay indoors. Additionally, our playground receives full sunlight at noontime adding warmth to the recess play area.
Now that the weather has turned colder, we ask that you make sure that your child is properly dressed for outdoor activity and most weather conditions. Hats, gloves, scarves and winter coats are strongly suggested. Remember that sneakers or tied shoes are the safest form of footwear for play purposes.
Questions or concerns regarding outdoor arrival or recess should be directed to us. Thank you for your cooperation.
